Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Do you offer online speech therapy?

Yes. We offer virtual SLP sessions for families across Ontario, all you need is a stable internet connection and a quiet space. Online therapy works especially well for school-age children, articulation work, and families outside the immediate Richmond Hill area. Many of our families do a mix of in-person and online depending on their week.

Do you offer in-person speech therapy?

Yes. Our Richmond Hill clinic at 9040 Leslie St Unit 7 has 18 therapy rooms designed for kids, with free parking on-site. In-person sessions are great for younger children, hands-on play-based work, and families who want a dedicated space outside the home.

Do you offer at-home speech therapy?

Yes, we offer in-home speech therapy sessions for families in Richmond Hill and the surrounding GTA North area (Vaughan, Markham, Thornhill). At-home sessions can be especially helpful for younger children who do better in their familiar environment, or for families with scheduling or mobility constraints. Availability varies, so reach out and we'll let you know what works for your area.

How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?

Common signs include: a toddler not talking by age 2, difficulty pronouncing sounds (R, S, L), stuttering or stumbling on words, trouble understanding directions or expressing needs, limited vocabulary compared to peers, or a daycare/teacher flagging a delay. If any of those sound familiar, a free 30-minute consultation with one of our SLPs is the best first step, there's no referral needed and no obligation to continue.

What's the difference between a speech therapist and an SLP?

"Speech therapist" and "Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)" are usually used interchangeably, but in Ontario, only a CASLPO-registered SLP is legally qualified to assess, diagnose, and treat speech and language disorders. Our SLPs are CASLPO-registered, and our SLP Assistants (SLPAs) work directly under their supervision. That's the credential that matters when you're choosing a clinic.

How long does it take to see progress in speech therapy?

Every child is different. Some families notice changes in a few weeks (especially with articulation or single-sound work), while broader language or fluency goals can take several months of consistent sessions. Regular weekly visits plus short practice routines at home tend to accelerate progress the most. Your SLP will give you a realistic timeline after the initial assessment.

When should my child start speech therapy?

As soon as you have a concern. Early intervention works, the brain is more flexible at younger ages, and small delays are much easier to address before school. We see children as young as 18 months for late-talker concerns, all the way through age 16 for articulation, fluency, and social-communication work. If you're not sure, the free 30-minute consult will help you decide.

How much does speech therapy cost, and is it covered by insurance?

Our SLP assessment is $225 and includes a full evaluation plus a written treatment plan. Ongoing intervention by a Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) is $126/hour under SLP supervision. Most private insurance plans cover speech-language pathology, coverage varies by provider, so it's worth checking your plan. Children with an autism diagnosis can use Ontario Autism Program (OAP) funding for our services. Our team can help you navigate the paperwork. The free 30-minute consultation is always at no cost.
